Johnstown Farm Great Pumpkin Contest
We just had an amazing “postcard” perfect evening here at the farm. Kola Johnson was the official judge for our Johnstown Great Pumpkin Contest. The entries were weighed and measured. The biggest pumpkin has a circumference of 6 1/2 feet and weighed 122 pounds! Ken and Diane Cummings grew that giant. Other entries were by Billy Berg, Zeke Flippo, Judah Flippo, Charis Mourn, and Benjamin Mourn. We all decided that was excellent for a drought year. Kola had prizes ready for all the entries. We had a chili feed complete with stories from the Johnstown glory days. Leland Nelson brought his guitar out and sang some good old songs as the sun went down. This was a great night to create new traditions and memories while learning about the traditions and memories of the past.
Grammy’s Pumpkin Patch – Pumpkins don’t melt
It is a bit drizzly here, off and on, today, but we’re still having fun! It is the perfect fall temperature for a bit of cider and pumpkin spice coffee with a cinnamon roll. Just a reminder-pumpkins don’t melt in the rain, so come and pick yours out!
Crazy Dan has just driven in from Iowa, and he is ready to smash some pumpkins with Thor’s Hammer.
Grammy’s Pumpkin Patch – Kansas Wind
Wow! We have had some CRAZY wind here in Central Kansas these past two days. If the weatherman is correct, we have weathered the worst of it. So here we go – putting up the sign (again). It would be great to have a little rain shower overnight, so we are ready for a big weekend. Don’t forget to call 785-227-2656 to check on the weather. Just because it is raining at your place, doesn’t mean it is raining at Grammy’s!
